Anish Kapoor: Essence and Absence

Anish Kapoor is an artist apart, a solitary figure who navigates his path with extreme deliberation and courage. Through a series of interviews we are introduced to the artist’s complex worlds.

His art-making is contemplative, and as serene as his belief in Buddhism. You imagine that he seeds an idea and then circles it meditatively, until it yields a conclusive form. Form and its absence hold for Kapoor infinite possibilities. He explains, “The history of sculpture may be seen as the history of material. I am making works with the history of the non-material, between the illusory and real, between mythology and the ordinary.”
