Aphrodite’s republic

The negotiations in January went well: Anastasiades and Akinci trust in a reunification that must be granted the utmost support by the international community.

For Anastasiades, the conditions are in place to reach a solution by the end of the year as long as all of the chapters of the negotiations are agreed “in a manner that is clear and satisfactory for all”. Akinci, meanwhile, understands that they face “probably the last chance to reunify the island and one we can’t afford to waste”.

Cyprus is divided by a buffer zone, known as the Green Line, which is policed by a UN peacekeeping force.
