Killer robots

Independent weapon systems are being debated by the UN, at research centres and at arms conferences in light of the Geneva Convention.

The patrol along Israel’s border is on the avant-garde: a weaponised vehicle able to identify and track hostile
targets. The Zumwalt destroyer’s ‘brain’ can autonomously detect and track enemy submarines and drones. In both cases, however, the final decision to pull the trigger is still made by a human.
