India’s Red Corridor Maoists

Over the years, the void left by the Indian government in the central state of Chhattisgarh has been filled by insurgent rebels tied to the Maoist branch of the Communist Party, which is banned from public life for its terrorist ties. By siding with the poor,they’ve created a formidable dilemma for the Indian governmen. While New Delhi downplays the growing power of the rebels, it has begun actively fighting them. Complicating the tension is the role of multinationals, eager for a foothold in territories that are rich in natural resources.
