Sakamoto:The Last Visionary
On his website, Ryuichi Sakamoto is referred to as the "Renaissance Man of Contemporary Japan," an apt description for a composer, musician, producer, actor, environmentalist and pacifist. In 1987, his soundtrack for Bernardo Bertolucci's "The Last Emperor" won an Oscar. Since then Sakamoto has evolved into an avid environmentalist and a critic of nuclear energy in Japan. The Web, he says, has changed the world. Perhaps as a result of his visionary eclecticism, Sakamoto worries about the state of Japan and its cultural future.
