Russia’s Hobbled Future
The crisis of 2008 demonstrated Russia’s intrinsic economic weakness. Even before the downturn, President Dmitri Medvedev was trying to steer the country toward a high-tech future, going so far as to inaugurate a so-called city of development. But with the country in distress, following through with planned transformations seems less and less likely. . Nor is Europe in any position to help.
