Souls and oil, the essence of a tribal economy

The United Nations-led international mission to stymie the migration business is about to begin. United Nations and the European Union are focusing on Libya to stop the refugee arrivals in the Mediterranean. On the one side, the EU Council has approved the second stage of the EUNAVFOR Med operation, which is highly criticized in Libya and includes intercepting boats and apprehending smugglers in Libyan territorial waters. On the other, the special representative and head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Spain’s Bernardino León, has assured that the agreement between Tripoli and Tobruk for the formation of a national unity government is now very close.

Should this option go through and the agreement be confirmed, even the potential UN peace enforcement mission in Libya could finally be kick-started. According to rumours in the press leadership of the international peacekeeping mission would be handed to the Italians and it would include French, British, Spanish and German troops.
