East and West in the balance

Hard times are approaching for a kingdom always considered a bastion of stability. Many factors are contributing to a highly charged climate. 

Amid the turmoil in the Mid- dle East – wars in Yemen, Iraq, Syria and Libya, Israeli- Palestinian tensions, and re- newed military rule in Egypt – one country has remained relatively out of the spotlight. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, bordering Israel and Palestine to the west, Saudi Arabia and Iraq to the east, and Syria to the north, is located in the heart of the Middle East and has traditionally been an ally of the West. How is the country coping with being surrounded by war?
