Opportunities for an economic area from Lisbon to Vladivostok.

Our East forum this year will take place in Berlin on the 9th and 10th of April and has as its theme the creation of an economic area running from Lisbon in the West to Vladivostok, the Eastern Russian port on the Pacific Ocean.

The realization that economic integration leads to peace is one of the great discoveries of the Twentieth Century – and the fundamental idea on which the construction of the European Union is based. Commerce and trade tend to benefit all the parties involved, both removing the causes for war and making conflict economically unfeasible – perhaps the greatest lesson learnt from the ‘Cold War’.
