Imagine if from one day to the next your comfortable daily existence and everyday routine disappeared. And imagine if the sudden change were due to a civil war. A real war, with nowhere to hide, a wound that may never . You are left with no choice but to flee your home country, driven by the deepest possible sense of selfpreservation: the will to live. This is Syria today.
Knowledge and awareness can play a big part in preventing tragedies from repeating themselves. This is not always the case, and we are often mocked by the recurrences of atrocities. Nevertheless, it is worthwhile to engage our consciences. And that seems to be what the authors of the book Flight from Syria: Refugee Stories have in mind. The book is the final product of an initiative promoted by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting.
