As  François Hollande's five year stint reaches its conclusion, he leaves behind him a country in the midst of a maelstrom. France is currently in the throes of a deeprooted crisis of politics and identity, shaken to its foundations by the recent terrorist attacks, which have been compounded by the migrant crisis and a global political outlook that has knocked all points of reference out of kilter.
