It is no secret that even in 2017, the role of women in the employment market is wholly underrated. The managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde, has often remarked that the gender gap is one of the world’s major problems. Her most recent comments in this direction came at the beginning of the year during the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. “When the woman starts talking, the men switch off”, Lagarde said to an audience consisting largely of men. The road to gender equality in employment is still a long one, a stubborn fact which raises important questions about lost opportunities for the global economy.
