When Dennis Aabo Sørensen lost his hand, he thought he'd never feel tactile sensations in that part of his body again. A large firework had exploded between his fingers while he was celebrating the New Year, and despite being rushed to hospital, doctors were forced to amputate the entire limb. The 37-year-old Dane did not know then that nine years after his accident, he would be selected to take part in the Nebias project and become the first man in the world to test a bionic arm capable of sending stimuli and sensations to the brain.
