Latin America is a geopolitical concept that can only be explained by taking into account the expansion of Western
Europe since the 15th century. These previously ‘undiscovered’ lands were populated by hundreds of diverse cultures which were not granted the dignity of political identities. These cultures suffered a process of subjugation and colonisation that transformed them into territorial branches of occupying forces.
