Moon’s star is waning in South Korea

The South Korean leader will not tolerate his neighbour’s threats, but his strategic silence is providing the opposition with plenty of wiggle room.

South Korean president Moon Jae-in was elected on a liberal agenda to fix the country’s problems, including what many see as an insufficient welfare programme and an uncomfortable softness towards big businesses and corruption.

He was not, however, elected for his foreign policy promises, even though there is intense global interest regarding how the 64-year-old will deal with the country’s rival, North Korea.
