Sanctions fly across the Pacific
The United Nations has approved punitive measures against Pyongyang, but a cautious Security Council will have the final word.

Members of both the UN and its Security Council have demonstrated a rather surprising level of agreement regarding North Korea. Whether the overlap will be sufficient to solve the crisis without a war is another matter altogether. On the one hand, Kim Jong-un views his atomic programme as an insurance policy for his survival; on the other hand, US President Donald Trump has undermined his own secretary of state, Rex Tillerson, by posting a tweet in which he claimed that talking or negotiating with Pyongyang was a waste of time and energy.
