The negotiations for the reunification of Cyprus taking place in Crans Montana in Switzerland hit the rocks in July. According to the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, this was “really the last chance for reunification” of the island, which has been divided since 1974. But perhaps his prediction was too pessimistic. There may still be hope for the negotiations, which are likely to recommence following the elections that are due to take place on both sides of the island in January. The forces that appear to be pushing for a solution to the situation are, in fact, numerous and diverse.
