Erdoğan’s Hot Automn

After a phase of relative calm, unrest flares again on streets of Turkey. If we exclude the night between 3rd and 4th of August - when there have been 43 people arrested and dozens of people injured in Istanbul - the protests had entered a period of relative calm during summer. But now with college students returning for the fall semester and the sixth victim of Gezi Park (Ahmet Atakan, 22, who died at Antioch after being hit in the head by a tear gas canister), the unrest has resumed throughout the country. Kadıköy, the Asian district of Istanbul, has turned into the epicentreof a new wave of protests.
