Oriana Fallaci invented the role of female war correspondent. The international press has recently discovered, to its surprise, that the majority of active war correspondents in Syria are women. What was once an exclusively male occupation is no longer so – and much of the credit must go to Italian journalist Oriana Fallaci.
Oriana had already smelled the smell of gunfire, burning buildings and exploding bombings in her teenage years, as a courier for the Resistance during WWII – and had learned to keep her fear in check.
