Is TV on the way out?

The over-the-top platforms – Netflix, Amazon, Google – and their independently produced content will sound the death knell for traditional channels.

Film and television programs in ultra-definition (known in slang as 4K, the latest evolution in full HD); internet platforms for producing and broadcasting videos; the ability to move seamlessly from radio to web transmissions and to overcome the limitations of strict programming (so-called linear television) by transferring to on-demand programming along the lines of what is currently being provided by Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and Sky: these are the issues that will decide the fate of television, now being called upon to undertake an even more sweeping revolution than the one involved in the switch from analogue to digital terrestrial broadcasting.
