The recent events in Bologna and the decisions made by Mayor Cofferati regarding security, together with the violent anti–high speed train protests in Val di Susa by some small extremist groups who have a rather worrying idea of democracy, and how this is seen by the Centre-left, prompt me to ask east’s indulgence in a number of thoughts I would like to express, both as a citizen and as an elected official in a city government run by a centre-left coalition.
