The fall of the Berlin Wall made a clean sweep of the old publishers with links to the Communist regimes. Today, foreign groups – German, American, French, Swiss and Scandinavian – own publishing houses and newspapers in Central and Eastern Europe. The Italians are missing, despite courageous pioneering initiatives by Mariano Volani, Niki Grauso and Rcs.
