On the subject of the two Italian marines currently being held in India, we publish a comment by Antonio Armellini, former Italian ambassador to India and current President of Organising Committee of the Italian Research centre for Asia and Africa.

The case of Italian marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone (accused of killing two local fishermen off the shores of India) was perceived as a major foreign policy crisis in Italy, whereas only distracted attention has been paid to the incident in the halls of power and public opinion in other countries, even among our friends and allies.
