The European Union is the largest importer of natural gas in the world. Thus the “diversification of supply sources is of fundamental importance both for energy security and for competitiveness”, according to Maroš Šefčovič from Slovakia. Jean-Claude Juncker has appointed Sefcovic to fill the position of vice president of the European Union’s energy union project, which will manage this task of “fundamental importance”.
