Nigel Farage, leader of the Eurosceptic and populist United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) is confident that his party, founded only twenty years ago, is on a roll. In local council elections held in May 2013, UKIP stunned Britain by gaining over 140 seats. This unexpected victory - the best result for a party outside the big three in British politics since the Second World War - will almost inevitably lead to some serious rethinking about Britain’s future role in Europe.
