Brazil has a “tendency to seek authoritarianism”. That might sound like a wisecrack uttered by one of the many populist leaders thriving in Latin America, but it was actually a statement made by the Brazilian president, Michel Temer. He made this claim during the solemn celebrations on 15 November, dedicated to the proclamation of the Republic.
