Just two years after the Tohuku earthquake and the nuclear disaster of Fukushima, and Japan is endeavouring to make its come-back on the chessboard of international geopolitics, showing unexpected assertiveness. The number one objective? To return to the pre-recession conditions of economic growth, ending fifteen years of virtual zero growth for its domestic economy. And the motto of the past 2 years, since the events of 11th March 2011 – Ganbare nihon or ‘Onward Japan’ – may have played a part.
