The unstable balance of the post-Soviet economy
It has been a long and difficult road since independence from Russia. From 1999 on, however, the country has changed and 2005’s economic problems are only one episode along Ukraine’s complicated and occasionally uneven path to prosperity. Investments and the economy as a whole have taken off again since the removal of the Tymoshenko government. And, while it won’t be an entirely downhill road, the prospects are favourable.
