The United States has the largest prison population in the world

TRUE – According to the latest comparative data published by the International Centre for Prison Studies, at the end of 2013, the United States had a prison population of 2.2 million people, followed by China (1.7 million) and the Russian Federation (671,000).

The United States also has the highest incarceration rate of 716 per every 100,000 people, followed in the ranking by the Caribbean nation of Saint Kitts and Nevis (714), the Seychelles Islands (709), the Virgin Islands (539), Barbados (521) and Cuba (510).
