They are very easy to make, here are the ingredients you need:

  • 500 g self raising flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Juice of half lemon
  • 4 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 90 g butter
  • 1 egg
  • 250 ml whole milk

Preparation

Preheat oven to 200 degrees.

Put the flour in a large bowl with the baking powder, salt and sugar and mix well.

Take another large bowl and sift them for at least 3 times. This process is essential to incorporate lot of air into the flour, to make the final product more soft and airy.

Put the butter into the bowl and begin to knead it with the flour with your fingertips, until you get a wet and sandy mixture.

Make a well in the middle of the mixture and pour in the milk, egg and lemon juice.
With a knife, mix the dough until it will be solid enough to be able to overthrow it on the work surface.

Flour a little bit the surface before working the dough and knead it just the necessary time to put it together. If you will overwork it, the final product will be tough and chewy.

Roll out the dough at approximately 4 cm high and with a 5 cm round cookie cutter cut scones from the dough. Arrange them on a baking sheet coated with baking paper and let them rise for 15 minutes.

Bake for 15 minutes.
