Baked potatoes, or jacket potatoes, are an Anglo-Saxon culinary specialty, which is often served in a number of pubs, with baked beans and melted cheese. Baked potatoes are not nothing but potatoes cooked in the oven or microwave, topped with different ingredients, which are a full and fast meal that British love to eat, especially on weekends.
Baked potatoes are famous in many countries of the world which, according to their traditions and foods, can offers many different versions of them. For example, in Scotland they are served with the famous haggis, a kind of sausage made with innards of sheep and mixed spices, or the Swedish version, served with seafood.
The microwave cooking method is undoubtedly the fastest of all and allows to have the potatoes cooked to perfection and ready in just 15 minutes.
Ingredients
Let’s see what ingredients are used for 3 baked potatoes:
- 3 potatoes for baking, washed and dried
- 3 tablespoons mayonnaise or crème fraiche
- 8 slices of bacon
- a bunch of parsley
- 5 grams of butter for each potato
Preparation
Take potatoes and prick them 6 times in total, with a sharp knife. If you don’t prick the potatoes, these will explode in the microwave, so it is very important to remember this step.
Once pricked, place them on a suitable microwave dish and cook for 14 minutes at 900W.
Meanwhile, let’s cook the bacon. Heat up a pan very well and cook the bacon four slices at a time. Cook it until it becomes crispy and set aside, draining it from the excess fat. You will not have to use any type of fat in the pan as the bacon will release its own natural fat and will cook in it. Once the potatoes are cooked, remove the plate from the microwave and allow to cool for a few minutes. Cut them in half but not all the way down and with the help of a fork, remove the pulp from the sides, to put the most of it in the center. Take a knob of butter and put it on the potatoes, mixing it well with the mashed pulp. Crumble the bacon with the hands or cut it with the help of a knife and put it on the potatoes. Now take the parsley and cut it finely enough. Put a little bit of parsley on top of each potato and finally garnish them with a spoonful of creme fraiche or mayonnaise.
