Immigration, Where is the Humanity?

“We are not animals” “We are human beings”.  Signs in Ventimiglia. That’s what they have to remind us and the EU governments of. Furthermore, “Where is the humanity?”. While after nights sleeping on the rocks, migrants who were waiting to cross the border to France have been forced to leave by the police. They would like to join their relatives, some hope for better conditions and faster asylum seekers recognition procedures, the way it works in some North EU countries. They do not want to stay in Italy.

The Amnesty International report, the responsibility of world’s leaders

In 2013 more than 50 million people in the world have been displaced . It is written in the Amnesty International report “The global refugees crisis: a conspiracy neglect”, published for the refugee’s world day on the 20th of June.  More than half of the Syrian population is displaced, more than 4 million women, men and children migrated to other countries, especially to the neighboring countries. In Lebanon one person to five is Syrian now. So the Lebanese authorities decided to restrict the criteria of entering the country for Syrian nationals . According to the report, the UN’s humanitarian appeal for Syrian refugees was only 23% funded. UN’s calls to the International community to resettle refugees from Syria largely failed. “We are witnessing the worst refugee crisis of our era, with millions of women, men and children struggling to survive amidst brutal wars, networks of people traffickers and governments who pursue selfish political interests instead of showing basic human compassion,” said Salil Shetty, Amnesty International’s Secretary General. In 2014 and the first months of 2015, Syrians represent the largest number of people who tried to cross the Mediterranean sea to arrive to South Europe. Many refugees have been victims of abuses and discrimination in the host countries.
