A new industrial revolution

Macron should turn the French industrial model on its head and possibly the European one even if this means forfeiting part of his voter base.

With a new president, the time has come for France to review its industrial development model: private initiatives versus the State, openness versus being closed-off, globalisation verses national interests. France has retained the model of industrial development that it created in the days of Charles de Gaulle, one that is heavily reliant on major State intervention. But with Emmanuel Macron as president, there is now a chance that things might change in the hope of developing the kind of competitive edge that has been lacking in France for some time.
