Climate threat: what awaits us

Wars, mass migrations and eco-catastrophes are a few possible scenarios. But awareness of the dangers isn’t spurring enough action.

Now more than ever before, the issue of climate change is at the centre of media discussions and geopolitical debate,
perhaps due to the stance taken by the new United States administration. It is therefore important to clarify what we know, the risks we face and future scenarios.

What does the scientific community have to say? On the causes of global warming, the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has almost no doubt. Nearly all scientists (97%) believe that
human activity is the main cause of global warming through the emission of climate-altering greenhouse gases
such as carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4).
