In Mashhad, the holy city that is home to the mausoleum of Ali (the eighth Shia imam), Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Ali Khamenei delivered a speech on 20 March to commemorate Nowruz (Iranian New Year). In an effort to encourage national industry, domestic production and investment, Khamenei outlined his aims “to fight unemployment and recession, control inflation and confront the threats of enemies”.
